Regina Freinbichler
Regina was born on August 6, 1975, in Salzburg and was active in sports from an early age. She participated in gymnastics as a child and competed in artistic gymnastics until she was 16. She then became a gymnastics coach.
Later, she studied history, English, and mathematics to become a teacher. During her studies, she spent ten months in Glasgow. Scotland, Scottish culture, and especially Scottish dance made a deep impression on her.
In 2009, Regina founded "The Flying Scotsman Scottish Dancers Salzburg" within her gymnastics club, Maxglan. In 2015, she organized a dance workshop in Salzburg with Ron Wallace and Jim Cook as the teachers. Due to health reasons, she temporarily handed over the group to Katrin Edelmann in March 2018. Regina returned to the dance group in 2019, and the official handover to Katrin took place in February 2020. Regina did not return to the dance group. Katrin has since continued to lead the group in Salzburg as "Cuillin Scottish Country Dancers."
Regina has devised a number of dances. In 2015, she wrote and published the book "Scottish Country Dancing with Beginners," in which she shares her thoughts and experiences on teaching beginner and mixed groups. The book contains extensive material, including seven of her own dances. It is available at the Leeds Branch Shop.
She published nine more of her dances in a PDF collection titled "Own Dances" in 2021.
Another dance she wrote in connection with her illness is "Between Yews and Willows." The accompanying dance booklet includes her "Appeal on Ovarian Cancer for Scottish Country Dancers."
Besides Scottish dance and gymnastics, she was instrumental in producing the magazine "Wir bringen Schottland nach Salzburg” (We bring Scotland to Salzburg), which was published several times a year and ran for 13 issues.
Until the last days of her life in the hospice, she devoted herself to her fascination with Scotland. She was working on a book entitled "Faszination Schottland” (Fascination Scotland), which was published in mid-March 2022 (available only in German, ISBN: 978-3-99025-446-2). Sadly, she did not live to see its publication.
After a long battle with cancer, Regina passed away far too soon on March 5, 2022, at the age of 46.
